Cheesy hamburger potato casserole is a comforting, hearty dish filled with layers of tender potatoes, savory ground beef, and gooey cheese—ideal for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 medium russet potatoes, sliced
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish with butter.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until fully cooked.
  3. In the greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cooked beef mixture and half of the shredded cheese. Repeat the layers.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour evenly over the layered ingredients.
