Decadent Boston Cream Pie

  • Author: Mark Taylor
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: Serves 8

Description

A delightful combination of tender vanilla cake, rich custard, and glossy chocolate ganache that’s perfect for any celebration or just a sweet treat at home.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Granulated sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Eggs
  • Whole milk
  • Unsalted butter
  • Pure vanilla extract
  • Heavy cream
  • Bittersweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, cream together sugar and butter until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and vanilla.
  3. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just mixed. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. After cooling the cakes, prepare the custard by heating milk and sugar in a saucepan. Whisk egg yolks with cornstarch, then gradually mix in warm milk. Cook over low heat until thickened; stir in vanilla.
  5. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until steaming, pour over chocolate chips, let sit for 5 minutes before stirring until smooth.
  6. Assemble by layering one cake with half of the custard filling, topping it with the second layer, and covering it with remaining custard and ganache. Chill before serving.
