Description
A delightful combination of tender vanilla cake, rich custard, and glossy chocolate ganache that’s perfect for any celebration or just a sweet treat at home.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- Granulated sugar
- Baking powder
- Eggs
- Whole milk
- Unsalted butter
- Pure vanilla extract
- Heavy cream
- Bittersweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, cream together sugar and butter until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and vanilla.
- Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just mixed. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- After cooling the cakes, prepare the custard by heating milk and sugar in a saucepan. Whisk egg yolks with cornstarch, then gradually mix in warm milk. Cook over low heat until thickened; stir in vanilla.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream until steaming, pour over chocolate chips, let sit for 5 minutes before stirring until smooth.
- Assemble by layering one cake with half of the custard filling, topping it with the second layer, and covering it with remaining custard and ganache. Chill before serving.
