Instructions

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy; gradually add sugar and mix until light. Add eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract and milk; mix until smooth.
  4. Slowly combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just combined—avoid overmixing.
  5. Divide the batter into separate bowls and color each portion with food coloring.
  6. Spoon colored batters into cupcake liners in layers or swirls.
  7. Bake for about 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together powdered sugar and butter until fluffy; add heavy cream and vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
