  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, divided
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Warm milk in a saucepan until lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast over it and let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add melted butter and yeast mixture; mix until combined.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
  4. Roll out dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter over it. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll tightly from one long side to create a log; slice into even pieces.
  6. Place slices in greased baking dish close together; let rise again while preheating oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before drizzling with icing made from powdered sugar mixed with milk.
