Instructions
- Cook the penne pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water before draining.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Stir in crushed red pepper flakes for around 30 seconds, then add the canned tomatoes (crushed by hand or with a spoon). Season with salt and pepper.
- Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes, adding reserved pasta water as needed for desired consistency.
- Toss the cooked penne in the sauce until well coated.
- Serve immediately, garnishing with fresh basil leaves.
